David Skentelbery has over 35 years of experience in various leadership positions in the maritime industry. David currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited, overseeing ship repair project management, estimating, technical planning, procurement, and materials logistics. Prior to this role, they were the Chief Commercial Officer at the same company.

Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited

GBSL was established in Freeport in the year 1999 as part of a larger plan to develop a maritime center on the island. The shipyard is located inside the port of Freeport, Grand Bahama, only 93 nm east of Miami, Florida. GBSL is capable of docking any type of seagoing vessel up to 300m in length. In order to service deep draft vessels or underwater propulsion system exchanges, a deep-water pier has been developed and is fully functioning with drafts of 14m. The services provided are carried out through a coherent framework of measures developed to promote teamwork, planning, training and discipline to meet the highest standards of quality and HSE, which forms an integral part of the operation. Safety, health, welfare, quality control and environmental concerns are imperative in this operation, and all aspects of this is monitored closely by the executive team who is committed to a policy of effective management and sound business ethics. The yard is ISPS compliant and in full compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001, and fully certified and operate an Environmental Management System in compliance with ISO 14001. The above combined with a wide range of facilities, supported by modern management systems, allows Grand Bahama Shipyard to exceed the demanding standards of today’s shipyard clientele. Areas of expertise also include various disciplines such as project management, detailed planning and scheduling, steelwork, pipework, mechanical, hull treatment, electrical, and various solutions for any type of vessel and other pertinent services.
