Pieter Mattelaer is an experienced professional in civil engineering and project management, currently serving as Group Leader of Project Portfolio Management at CERN since September 2015. In this role, Pieter oversees major developments in civil engineering and building projects, managing the entire contractual life-cycle from initial design to final delivery. Previous positions at CERN include Deputy Group Leader and Project Director for the High Luminosity LHC Project, focusing on civil engineering works. Before joining CERN, Pieter worked as Project Manager and Design Manager at DEME Group, managing EPCI contracts for Offshore Wind Farms in Europe, and as Project Manager at Tipping, specializing in structural and seismic design of sustainable buildings in the USA. Early career experience includes being a Project Engineer at Arup, working on architecturally significant buildings in Europe and the Middle East. Pieter holds a Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a degree in Architecture from KU Leuven.
